DAVE WIELENGA BECOMES A BLOGGER!

UhOhhhhh!

Continuing a life-and-career trajectory as jagged as an EKG,  Long Beach-area journalist Dave Wielenga has become a blogger.

His collection of self-indulgent rants and raves—which readers are obliged to wade through to get to surprisingly poignant, where-did-that-come-from observations and between-the-eyes investigations–debuts today on LBReport.com.

The title–Dave Wielenga: REDISTRICTED!–refers to Wielenga’s recent departure from The District Weekly.

“I feel thrilled to join the technological vanguard of journalism,” Wielenga rejoiced.

Wielenga’s enthusiasm notwithstanding, many media watchers in the Long Beach area note that this move is not taking him forward, but in reverse–from much-decorated professional to rank amateur. That is, there are no advertisers on his blogsite.

Asked how he intends to pay for basics such as food, clothing and trips to see his girlfriend in Chicago, the excitement drained from Wielenga’s face.

“Uhhh, I hadn’t considered that,” he mumbled, then went into his backyard to pull some weeds.

All the best, Dave! Glad to know we won’t have to suffer pangs of withdrawal for lack of good journalism and insight. Is that Dave-in-the-headlights mug supposed to portrait your fear of the new venture? Fear not.

Good luck to you, Dave, and welcome to blogging.

As a matter of fact, I look like that whenever some bit of common sense dawns on me.

I’m jealous of the girlfriend in Chicago! 😉

    Good Luck Dave!

Awesome Dave! I’m glad you are continuing your excellent coverage of Long Beach. I am certain this opportunity will inspire you to greater success. Now, how do we keep this site secret from Mr. Greet…..

    Dave,
Thanks for sticking with us and giving us the best independent views of Long Beach. Last night was no different. It was interesting watching the debate. I don’t think the incumbant gets the zero base for the needs of the city budget and I agree that is how we need to look at this. I also think we need to be considering more public input on contracts as well as reducing the City Managers ability to to sign off on personal service contracts up to 100K. Again, good luck and you’re a;ways welcome for quiche in NLB.

    Dave,

I am also grateful that you will stay in the mix here in LB. Your willingness to ask the tougher questions and dig deeper on issues is refreshing for all.

Together, you and Bill (LBReport.com) will continue to provide the citizens with thought provoking points of view and details on community issues/projects that may affect us all.

Stay the course……..and may the advertising dollars roll in to keep you both online!!

Congrats David. I deeply respect your journalism, and hope that your new venture blossoms and grows. We should talk about environmental enforcement sometime, and how there hasn’t been any in Long Beach since 2005. In any event, the main obstacle to environmental enforcement, Tom Reeves, will be gone in a few months. Maybe it will return….best wishes
